second test, day three

0740: Two more wickets for Hoggard, who has been brilliant today, but it still looks like being a draw unless England can rip out the Aussie tail and enforce the follow-on. Still, they are going to come away with at least the 'winning draw'.

0617: Why can't they get better cameras square for the third umpire? There's no doubt in my mind that the 'missing frame' would have seen Hussey short of his ground when the wicket was broken, but on the sub-standard pictures available, the third umpire had no option but to give it not out. We've all seen the wonderful pictures from the hi-motion cameras. Why are they not also positioned where they would be most useful?

0519: England's chances of victory have probably now gone, with the pitch once again looking flat. Had Giles held what was a pretty straightforward chance to be honest, England might have had Australia five or six down now and in real trouble.
But it wasn't to be. Still, England would probably have taken a winning draw before day one and that looks like being the outcome.
It's that old chestnut - the pitch is the winner. DT

0240: Good start for England on day three, but how much will they rue offering two lives to Ricky Ponting?
Putting that to one side for a moment, England have been brilliant on the third morning.
Flintoff's captaincy has been incisive and imaginative, with all four bowlers backing up the well-thought-out plans.
Most importantly, there's been some swing for Hoggard and Anderson, and we know the Aussies don't always play the swinging ball particularly well.
This is the key partnership, with both batsmen looking determined to bat and bat. Dave Tickner
