Symonds could easily have been playing for England in this series. He was born in Birmingham, but after much discussion about which country he would represent, he opted for Australia, declaring himself a "fair-dinkum Aussie".

He has been a mainstay in their one-day side where his big-hitting style has been put to good use. However, he had only 10 Test caps to his name prior to this series, and has struggled to establish himself in the longer form of the game.

Called up to the Baggy Greens' squad after the second Test with fellow all-rounder Shane Watson struggling with injury.
