Bell is in a curious position of having his place in doubt without ever really doing an awful lot wrong.
He had a brilliant 2006, an OK Ashes amongst a shambles of a side, and a decent if at times frustrating World Cup.
The emergence of Alastair Cook, as well as Michael Vaughan's eventual return to the Test side and Marcus Trescothick's possible comeback all mean that Bell's spot in the team is by no means secure, and will have to score an avalanche of runs to shore up his place.
