michael vaughan
The England captain's nightmare run with injuries continued in Australia when his comeback from knee surgery was interrupted by a hamstring tear.
Vaughan had a mediocre World Cup before a cracking 89 in the last game against West Indies, but never has the phrase 'fitness permitting' been so apt for a player.
An inspirational captain and magnificent batsman when on form, Vaughan had not played a Test since the back end of 2005 before the West Indies series, and it will be interesting to see whether he can have the same relationship he had with Duncan Fletcher with new coach Peter Moores.
